A Quick Guide to Ceroc Etiquette - some hints and tips to make your night more fun!

Man Leads!

• In Ceroc, it is the man who takes the decisions and leads the dance. ladies, please allow your dance partner this one chance to take control! A good male dancer is one who leads well and a good female dancer is one who follows the mans lead well.

Relaxed Hand Hold

• The dance is lead by subtle nuances and a gentle hand hold is essential. Please don't lock your partners hand in a vice like grip! This applies to both men and ladies.

Relax 

• It is extremely difficult to lead a partner who is tense. Relax into the rhythm of the music. Following and leading the moves become so much easier.

Listen to the Teacher

• Please avoid the tendency to race ahead during the class. The Teacher will help you to improve your style, smooth out any problems and help you to remember the move. This is difficult to do if you're not watching and listening to the teacher.

Never say no!

• It is Ceroc etiquette that you never turn down an invitation to dance unless you really are too tired or you dislike the music being played at the time. If you do decline, please say and do meet up for a dance later.

Dance with everyone!

• Whether you’re a beginner or look like a professional, you can ask anyone to dance. No one is too good. If you are a beginner don't be afraid of asking the teachers or advanced dancers for a dance. Just remember that everyone was a beginner once! Although the gentlemen lead in Ceroc, it is perfectly acceptable for the ladies to ask the men to dance. Read expected! They do not sit on the sidelines looking on hopefully.

Taxi Dancers

• Use them or lose them! You will see them in their Taxi dancers t’shirt. They are experienced dancers that are there to help. By dancing with you they will help you practice your moves and give a limited amount of personal coaching. The earlier you start taking advantage of them, the sooner your skills and confidence will grow as a dancer.
