-PRESS RELEASE-Dance Fever Hits Sheffield Saturday night entertainment has recovered again after a few weeks of dull, uninspiring T.V by re-scheduling the lovely Mr Norton with a new series of Strictly Dance Fever. No doubt after a couple of weeks of being drawn into the dance world you’ll be rummaging through your yellow pages looking for a dance club to join. After all, these contestants are amateurs and it does show that opportunities are open to us all. The thing is did these rhythmically gifted people ever have 2 left feet? It’s likely they didn’t but then again is your aim to dress in sequins and show your dancing talents to the world? I thought not. Most people would like to be able to dance because of the sheer pleasure it brings, and shuffling around off time with the music – whilst enjoyable – stops many from actually having a go. Embarrassment seems to consume us so unless we’ve had a few ‘sherbets’ at a wedding surrounded by good friends, family and other inebriated people the dance floor seems to be out of bounds. There is of course an answer. Take up dance classes yourself! I’m not talking Ballroom & Latin, Spandex & Sequins or even Ballet & Tap. I’m talking about the many forms of social dance classes taking place every week all over the country - Line Dancing, Salsa, Belly Dancing (not for the guys this one!), Street Jazz, Merengue, Lambada. If you don’t want to draw too much attention to yourself then partner dancing is the one for you and if you are a little rhythmically challenged your partner can help keep you on the beat. Then you need to choose the style of dance and I guess there will be some criteria here too; not too intimate, not too difficult, not too showy. Of course that leaves you with a potential problem – perhaps you don’t have a partner to dance with. Don’t despair there are dance classes where partners are not required. Ceroc teach fun, sociable partner dance classes to people of all standards. In particular it’s a hit with those who’ve never partner danced before because there isn’t any tricky footwork and it’s danced to all genres of music from current chart toppers and oldies. Kali Fraser- Franchisee for the Ceroc night in Sheffield says, “Just 1 regular weekly class can see you jiving around the floor with the rest within 4/5 weeks. We also move everyone around every 2-3 mins so you don’t need to bring a partner and you get to make lots of new friends as you dance.” If you want to give it a go the class starts at 7.30pm at The Davy Sports and Social Club, Prince of Wales Road every Tuesday evening.
